Grandma Eleanor’s Beef & Spinach Ravioli

Ravioli Making

So today is the day that we introduce the newest members of our family to our family tradition of making homemade ravioli. This year my niece AND nephew each got married! What a crazy year for my sister and her husband as their busy household welcomed two new members and experienced the hustle and bustle of dating and marriage. Only to be followed up with the quiet days of being (almost) empty nesters. They still have one lovely teenage daughter at home.

A Week in the Life Of a Keto Diet

A Week Of Keto Meals!

So what exactly does someone on a Ketogenic diet eat? I was a little baffled on this in the beginning too. Is it like the Atkins diet that was so popular several years ago when people ate all protein and could eat copious amounts of bacon and butter? Well, I guess it’s similar but technically the Keto diet should be all veggies and healthy fats like avocado, olive oil, seeds, nuts and a healthy source protein like eggs, fish and meat. That proves that an Italian can cook an American Turkey dinner because my Italian grandmother always nailed it! Interestingly, Ravioli was always part of the turkey dinner too, right along with the mashed potatoes, gravy and stuffing. I guess you can take the Italian out of Italy but you can’t take Italy out of the Italian.

Classic American Turkey Dinner

My Turkey dinner with all of the fixings!

When we are living in Italy, I am often asked what “American” food is and the answer is not always easy. American food is an amalgam of all other foods, we love to eat Mexican, Italian, Chinese, Indian food, Japanese among many others. This is the food we eat. There aren’t many “true” American dishes. Of course there is the Classic American Hamburger, apple pie, all fruit and cream pies for that matter as well as many cakes and cookies.
